Our client's core banking system was reliable and well understood, but it had become a bottleneck for change. New products were entangled directly with core logic, so even modest features demanded specialist developers, lengthy regression cycles and tightly controlled release windows. The practical effect was that the business could imagine far more than technology could deliver, and the roadmap was measured in quarters rather than sprints.

The mobile app lagged competitors on both capability and reliability, onboarding still leaned on branch visits and paperwork, and engagement was drifting. Sensitive flows used strong and step-up authentication, and the experience was designed for resilience — degrading gracefully when downstream systems were slow rather than failing outright.

Quality and security were engineered into the pipeline. Automated functional, integration and UI tests (Cypress) ran on every change, reaching 85% coverage and giving the team the confidence to release frequently. Security testing — including dynamic analysis with tooling such as OWASP ZAP — was automated alongside it, and full observability across logs, metrics and traces meant issues were detected and resolved before customers noticed. The result was a delivery system, not just a product.
